Wahoo! 20th birthday, and new scanner!

Hello, everybody!

You see that? Well, it means that I got a new printer -and scanner! And you know what that means? Yup! An advance in the development of Where Dreams Begin! I am immensely happy about that bit, so I think I'll start drawing lots in the next weeks. :)

As for the drawing itself, that's a sketch of Deirdre, one of the main characters of the series. I hope you like it. ^^

Oh! And there's something else: today's my birthday, so go me! I'm 20 now. :3

Well, that's all for now! Thank you for coming, and see you soon~! Very soon. ;)

New side Project for WDB!

Hello, everyone! I'm still around, you know. ;)

Actually, I'm actively working on The Dream Agency, my other webcomic. It's a story about dreams, too. Although nothing fantastic, and with a different concept.

But that's not what I want to talk about.

I'm soon going to start a side project that is related to Where Dreams Begin. It's not a comic, but a flash animation/teaser. This will mainly feature the new character designs, some music, and introduce the magical and mystical mood of the story. No, it's not going to be anime. They'll be very simple animation tricks, to be honest. I am not a pro, and I haven't finished an animation since year 2006. :( But I can refresh my memory in no time. I already started practicing. :)

So, I hope you'll like the outcome. It's a little gift for you all who have been waiting. That's the least I can do. I wanted it to be a surprise, but I just couldn't wait for so long to tell someone, heheh!

Well, see you soon with more news!

Character Re-designs

Oh my, if only my scanner were working! ;_;

Yes, it's stopped working -again! And I have MANY WDB-related drawings to share with you... but I can't until I can get the scanner fixed, or buy a new one.

I wanted to leave a note on the characters' designs, though:

They've changed. A LOT. They're very different from how I first portrayed them! Except for maybe a couple... Star didn't change much, because I like how she is. But her wardrobe changed. She won't be exactly wearing princess'y dresses, heheh. Because, in the first place... The story's setting changed and princess'y dresses would be so out of place, especially for someone who's going to be travelling and facing dangers!
And you're going to be surprised of how much our male protagonist changed! Sorry guys, but there won't be cat ears! Yush, that much he changed. I don't know if he looks better now, but he does have the expressions I wanted for him. But, you'll get to know him eventually, and see what kind of person he is by yourself. ^_^ But oh, he's still very handsome, I must say! Hehe, now that I think of it... I think you may end up loving other guys from the story as well... maybe even more!

Okay, that's all for now!

NEWS! About the Remake

Hello there!

Long time no see, eh?!

Well, I got some news for you. ;)

Remember that I said I'd start drawing WDB again? Well, yeah, that hasn't changed. But, you see... Now things will be much more complicated than just a re-draw. Because on August I started RE-WRITING the whole thing. Yep. The story is now very different, I must admit. I'll explain why this sudden decision:

First of all, I am SO GLAD I didn't start this comic earlier! Because the original story was very sucky:

  • PLOT HOLES. Plot holes everywhere!
  • Many clichés that I wouldn't be able to justify.
  • Boring and stereotypical character designs.
  • Weak female protagonist that must always be saved by others. Bleah!
  • Inconsistent plot, with side stories that made no sense. But then again, aren't those plot holes?
  • Undeveloped world. There was nothing that linked the characters and their backgrounds to their world, or the fact that magic exists. Nothing about the Lunar Kingdom you'd eventually be hearing about was written.
  • And many, many other things that now I consider stupid, immature, and annoying.

So much for trying to rush things. Maybe all this delay has been for the better. There are those who say that everything happens for a reason, and I agree with them.

The good thing is that the story will be much more exciting now! There are still some parts about the story that must be written.
I need to find a balance, too. I can't give details about them, but some parts of the original story were so depressing, shocking and melodramatic, in comparison with the rest, that I think it would have been plain weird. I must define an overall mood or happy medium; so that jumping from happiness to sadness doesn't seem so... drastic.
Also, I'd like to write the introduction and chapter one completely before even drawing them. The beginning is very important.
And there's something about Star: she would have been such a stupid character... So clumsy, weak, dependent. She would always rely on others. I want her to be stronger and more daring, while still being innocent; because that's one important characteristic of her that I could never get rid of. And I think I've finally found a Star that I like for this story! I hope you'll like her, too.

Thank you for following me all this time! I truly hope I can start this soon, but I have decided not to rush things anymore. Because if I do, I may end up making more mistakes.

See you soon!

Bad news... again. - But I won't give up!

You know what? I have concluded that FATE DOESN'T WANT ME TO BE A COMIC ARTIST! Seriously!

And you know why? Because... Just this past Saturday, I was going to scan this drawing, and what happens is that the scanner... died. Yes, ladies and gentlemen. The scanner died on me. And I can't have one until I get a job and pay a few debts I got. So no scanned drawings, no comic... Because I suck at drawing with the tablet. I can paint with it, but not draw. I don't know why. It's impossible. I keep trying, but I don't succeed.

So yeah, that's the news.

Oh, but there IS good news, too! Well, good for me at least.
I want this site to have a simple but pretty, original layout. That's because I don't really like the premade ones. The codes are awful. And no offense to those who made them. You had good intentions. But the codes are still awful. There is a lot of bad use of HTML and CSS. So I am going to go with something of my own. And if it results to be faulty, then it's... my fault. And I'll work to fix it.

Well, guys... I am very sorry. You don't know how depressed this makes me feel. Making a webcomic is one of those dreams I have. And the day I can finally do it, I'll be genuinely happy, like I rarely am in this life. I'll try to be like Star, the main character, and stay optimistic. So this is what I am going to do:

I am going to start drawing those pages on paper, and ink them how I can. Or leave them on pencil and ink them later (yeah, that's a better idea). The thing is that I am NOT giving up. I am going to do that, and when I get a scanner, I'll have something to start with. Then we'll all be happy, hehe. Well, at least I will.

Thank you for faving WDB. You don't know how much it means to me, that you're still here, waiting, after so many failed promises. I don't want to disappoint you, so I will keep trying.

*Hugs and kisses!*

Sincerely,
Jessica M. (aka Arwym Starlight)
